REUTERS/Mike Blake/File Photo Purchase Licensing Rights NEW YORK, Jan 2 (Reuters) - Billionaire investor William Ackman's hedge fund Pershing Square Capital Management returned 26.7% last year, beating the broader stock market gains and bouncing back from a loss in the previous year, according to an investor update on Tuesday.

Why did Ackman buy Chipotle?

Ackman first purchased Chipotle stock back in 2016 after the company experienced a spate of food safety issues which caused the stock to lose half its value. Ackman cited Chipotle's "continued focus on exceptional food and operational excellence" for fueling the company's impressive growth.
